MNS leader announces Rs 50 lakh for `dahi handi” organisers
Raj Thackeray News: To highlight the menace of `dahi handi’ organisers playing with lives of youngsters by increasing height of pyramids, a senior leader of the Raj Thackeray-led MNS has announced Rs 50 lakh for the organiser who breaks the handi.
“Why do you want children of others to lose life or limb after you place the `handi’ so high that it is impossible to break it.
If the organisers, who are mostly politicians, break it, I will give them Rs 50 lakh,” MNS MLA Bala Nandgaonkar told PTI here today.
In the last few years, half a dozen Govindas have lost their lives and several others have sustained serious injuries, Nandgaonkar said. The government should ensure that the height of these pyramids is restricted to a manageable eight layers, instead of the 10 which many organisers do, he said.
“Will the government give compensation to families who lose a member in dahi handi mishap,” the MNS leader said. In 2008, the Mazgaon-Tadwadi Ganesh Mandal, the oldest in the city, broke the dahi handi at Thane by forming a nine-layer pyramid.
